Professor Paul Poompan is a Jiu-Jitsu Blackbelt under Kevin Howell of Atos Long Beach. He has over 20+ years of martial arts experience. He started Muay Thai 1994 under his father and continued to train under legendary pioneers of American Muay Thai such as Kim Kongkriangkai, Saeksan Janjira, Melchor Menor and Bryan Popejoy. Professor Paul has also spent time training in Pathumthani, Thailand under the Legendary Sangtiennoi Sor Rungroj.
Paul has been training Jiu-Jitsu since 2002 He started his official Jiu-Jitsu journey with Professor Charlie Kolher out of San Diego fight club. He went on to learn Jiu-Jitsu under world Champions such as Fernando Vasconselos, Baret Yoshida and Eduardo Santoro. Paul Received his Blackbelt from Kevin Howell in 2023. In addition to his Muay Thai and Jiu-jitsu experience Professor Paul trained MMA for 2 years out of HMC Hawaii in Kalihi on the Island of Oahu. He also wrestled for Cerritos High School, Cypress College and is an assistant wrestling coach for Gahr High School in Cerritos, Ca.
During the day Paul is an Adapted Physical Education Specialist for the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District where he teaches Physical education to students with special needs. His hobbies outside of martial arts are travelling, cooking Thai food, watching USC Trojan Football and Lakers Basketball in his spare time.
Paul’s Philosophy on teaching Jiu-Jitsu is “It’s just as important to teach the “Why” as it is to teach the “How”.
